About the Artist | Ivana Jakovljevic

Ivana Jakovljević is a Serbian visual artist based in Chicago whose work spans large-scale abstract painting, murals, fine printmaking, and mosaics. Rooted in abstract expressionism and biomorphic abstraction, her art explores emotional depth, gestural movement, and rich, organic textures.

Artistic Vision & Mediums

Her signature work features large-format acrylic and mixed-media compositions built with tactile layering and gestural brushwork. Grounded in her classical background in monumental art, her creative practice encompasses:

Abstract Painting: Textured, gestural works on canvas utilizing acrylics and mixed media.
Public & Wall Art: Large-scale murals, frescoes, and mosaics for architectural and public spaces.
Printmaking & Works on Paper: Textured linocuts and original graphic prints.

Background & Education

Born in Kikinda, Serbia, Ivana completed her early formal training at the High School of Design in Belgrade (2007). She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (2012) in Wall Painting from the Faculty of Applied Arts at the University of Arts in Belgrade, specializing in fresco, mosaic, and mural painting. She is an active member of the Association of Fine Artists of Vojvodina (SULUV).

Exhibitions & Recognition Ivana has exhibited extensively across museums, galleries, and cultural centers internationally. Her work has been featured in premier Serbian cultural institutions—including the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade and the National Museums in Kikinda, Pančevo, and Kraljevo—as well as U.S. venues such as the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago. Her upcoming presentations include international contemporary platforms such as Art Expo Chicago and the Monaco Art Fair.

Monographs: Her work is documented in the professional monograph "Azbuka likovnog jezika / I vetar svira – ogrni me vetrom" by Aleksandra Hajdin (Zrenjanin: Art-Projekt, 2009, pp. 71–75).
